Multilingual websites with i18n
A sound i18n foundation means every language version displays correctly and appears in the right search results.
Background
A multilingual website needs more than translated text. Formats, forms, legal pages and search signals must suit each market. Otherwise Google shows the wrong language or flags duplicates. Adding languages later touches almost every template.
Technology
Text kept strictly separate from code
Localised dates, currencies and numbers
Clear URLs with language folders such as /de/ and /en/
Translatable interface text, error messages and emails
hreflang and SEO
hreflang tags tell search engines which page serves which language and region. We set them in full and in both directions, including x-default. Each language version has its own title and URL.
Translation workflow
Statamic links the language versions of each entry. For larger volumes, translation services or DeepL can be connected. Your editors keep the final sign-off. A glossary secures technical terms and brand names.
Language switching
The language switch leads to the same page in the other language. We never redirect by IP address. Missing translations fall back to a set language with a notice.
