Accessibility reviews for designs

Reviewing designs against WCAG 2.2 AA catches barriers while they are cheap to fix.

Background

Most barriers start in the design. Weak contrast or small touch targets take minutes to fix in a design file. After launch, they cost development time. Since 28 June 2025, the European Accessibility Act has applied in Germany to many digital consumer services.

What we check

  • Contrast: 4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text and controls.

  • Typography: legibility and behaviour at 200% zoom.

  • Focus and states: visible focus plus hover, error and disabled states.

  • Operability: touch targets of 24 × 24 pixels or more and alternatives to swipe gestures.

  • Forms: visible labels and clear error messages.

Approach

We review the Figma files with a contrast checker and a WCAG 2.2 AA checklist. Each finding gets a priority and a proposed fix. With design systems, we start with core components, as fixes there apply everywhere.

Outcome

The report with findings, priorities and corrected examples serves as evidence and as a basis for the technical audit.
